The Central license from the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is a license certificate that helps you run your food business smoothly in the market without any suspicion or repetitive investigation by the teams of experts and helps your food business earn more public trust and goodwill. As, per the FSSAI the central License is a requirement or mandatory for all food businesses involved in the manufacturing, storage, distribution, transportation, or retailing of food products. Based on the nature of the activity of the business, and the annual turnover of minimum 20Crores the FSSAI Central License could be issued by the Central FSSAI Regulators.

The FSSAI Central License is important and mandated for all those who are large Food Business operators. The Food business operators may be the Importers, large manufacturers, Major Distributor, 100% Export Oriented Units operators or operators working very closely for the Central Government agencies, the major airline’s food chain suppliers, seaports suppliers or operators, etc. All the operators who are large in the market having an eligible average turnover of 20crores or above are however required to obtain a Central Food License by the FSSAI. FSSAI Central License Eligibility
The eligibility of obtaining a license varies as per different licenses. The Food Business Operators having a running unit in more than one state with an annual turnover of more than Rs.20 crore can obtain the FSSAI central license. In order to obtain the FSSAI Central License, the operators have to fill out Form- B. Also, there are different kinds of food businesses that are eligible for the business that can be tracked via this list released by FSSAI in according to FSS Regulation, 2011.
All manufacturers, importers, exporters, premises to the central government, premises in air/seaport, need to apply for this license. The maximum tenure for the validity of the central license is 5 years and the minimum is 1 year.
FSSAI Central License Fees
The Applicant/Food Business Operators need to pay the fees while submitting the FSSAI Central License registration form-B.
The FSSAI registration fees for different types of registration are different but for the Central License it comes at a Fee of Rs.7,500

The license seeker must first submit Form B to the licensing authorities (The candidate must keep basic turnover requirements in mind while doing so).
Step-2: Applicant scrutiny by FSSAI’s officials
The application, along with the relevant papers, will be forwarded to the appropriate personnel for review.
Step-3: On-site inspection by FSSAI’s official of the business place
The FSSAI will send designated officials to the firm to determine the level of compliance that the FSSAI recommends. Any non-compliance in this area could result in the application being canceled.
Step-4: Approval of application and grant of the application
The certificate would be sent to the license applicant in a few days after the licensing body approved the application. After receiving the certification, the business owner can go full throttle with their operations.
Note: Displaying the Certificate at the business place is another legal mandate for the license holder.
Validity and the Renewal of Central FSSAI license
The Central FSSAI license comes with a flexible validity duration ranging from 1-5 years. The cost of the license would increase following the validity period. As far as the renewal is concerned, the central FSSAI license should be renewed before the 30 days of the expiration date, or else the penalties would be levied. The process of renewal for a food license is as simple as applying for the new license.
